Kilmarnock midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has criticised Paris St-Germain’s partnership with Rwanda as a tourism sponsor.

Mulumbu, a former PSG player, said the deal to promote the African country “does not match the ethics” of the French champions.

He added: “I cannot imagine in France opening a kind of deal like this. For me, it’s like unethical but they do it.”

Rwanda has been a PSG sponsor since 2018, with the partnership touted as part of the country’s efforts to promote tourism.

Mulumbu expressed his disappointment with the partnership, saying that as a former player of the club he holds “great affection” for, he believes PSG should rethink their associations.

The midfielder also pointed out the current situation in Rwanda and questioned whether the partnership was appropriate given these circumstances.

PSG has not commented on Mulumbu’s remarks, but Rwanda’s tourism board defended the partnership, saying it has boosted tourism in the country.

Mulumbu’s comments have sparked debate online, with many questioning the ethics of sports teams partnering with countries with controversial human rights records.

It remains to be seen whether Mulumbu’s criticism will impact PSG’s partnership with Rwanda, but the midfielder hopes to bring attention to the issue.
